BJ Jezbera Releases New Mariachi Punk Flavored Music

BJ Jezbera releases mariachi punk flavored EP on San Diego based Mannequin Vanity Records 1/8/21

While still sticking to his pop-punk acoustic roots, the four song EP also ventures into mariachi territory featuring a supergroup lineup of impressive performers.

Canciones Con Queso is a mariachi punk style EP from BJ Jezbera in the vein of Mariachi el Bronx. Chula Vista born and bred singer-songwriter BJ Jezbera has teamed up with an all-star musical cast to bring this project to life. Featuring Jakovich and Nick Sitar from QUEL BORDEL, Nico Lauzeret from BandàpArt, and Tyler from Clint Westwood Band and Mochilero All-Stars. Mixed and mastered by the one and only TJ Rivera (Rancid, The Interrupters, Mighty Mighty Bosstones) this EP packs a musical mariachi-punk punch unlike any other. The first song is a powerful intro that highlights all the instruments and styles coming together. “Best Amigos” is a humorous song of friendship. “Crudo” is an homage to hangovers. The final track is a fresh take on an old Mexican folk song (“La Cucaracha”) which tells the tale of smoking too much weed by yourself and developing a relationship with the cockroach that lives in your apartment. At just under 12min this EP is short and sweet – and a definite treat for your next fiesta!

This video is a hilarious take on a traditional mariachi song. It features the ball-busting spirit of our protagonists Chula Vista born and bred BJ Jezbera and his compatriot Jakovich (from world-punk band QUEL BORDEL!) as they make fun of eachother and reminisce on their friendship and playing for tourists in the gaslamp bar scene in San Diego.  It is the first single off of BJ’s latest EP Canciones Con Queso, a mariachi/punk style EP for which BJ Jezbera has teamed up with an all-star musical cast to bring his vision to life. Featuring Jakovich and Nick Sitar from QUEL BORDEL!, Nico Lauzeret from BandàpArt, Tyler French from Clint Westwood Band and Mochilero All-Stars, the sound is a full mariachi band with punk backbone featuring traditional instruments with fun and unique songs. The video was shot at BJ’s childhood home in Chula Vista, California and it was directed, shot and edited by Chad Butler of Two Ten Productions.
